Good Friday dates 2020–2040
Between 2020 and 2040, Good Friday falls as early as March 23 (2035) and as late as April 23 (2038). It is always a Friday.
How it is observed
Good Friday is the most solemn day of Holy Week. Catholic churches celebrate no Mass; instead the Celebration of the Lord's Passion is held in the afternoon, usually around 3:00 PM. It is a day of fasting and abstinence from meat for Catholics. Many Protestant churches hold services, and Orthodox churches keep their Great Friday on Friday, April 30, 2027.
How the date is set
Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday, so it can fall from March 20 to April 23.
Good Friday in other countries
It is a public holiday in the UK, in Canada (in Quebec employers may give Easter Monday instead) and in every state and territory of Australia.
